2008/2009 WSOP Circuit Event - Harrah's New Orleans
Event #3 - No Limit Hold'em
Saturday, May 09, 2009 to Sunday, May 10, 2009
Buy-in: $550
Prizepool: $165,385
Entries: 341
Places Paid: 36
Keechi - 4th place - $11,576
Thanks guys! Came back from a chip and a chair, so the victory was not hollow. But, alas, neither was it complete. Yet, I'll take it!!
Under the heading of FYI:
They now allow you to use mp3 players.
You can text from the table if you push your chair back. However, you must get up & walk away from the table to make calls.
The are brutally strict about giving out penalties for exposing your cards before the hand is over. If you toss your cards into the muck & one flips over, no problem. But, if you show your neighbor as you throw them into the muck, you sit out for an orbit.
When you cash, they give you a W-2G. They report the prize, less the buy-in amount, and withhold Louisiana state tax - around 6%. They did not withhold any federal income taxes, which surprised me. They pay the prize in casino chips and give a cash voucher for the buy-in amount. They redeem chips and vouchers at the main cage without any hassle. (Yes, it was very nice to have a couple $5,000 chippies!!)
The $125 SnG's are VERY easy to take down. The top two places are paid $500 in tournament entry chips plus $50 cash. I played four, won 3, and bubbled the other. I just played super TAG & waited for the donkeys to bust each other out, then outplayed the weakest of two remaining when down to three - often just letting the other two fight it out. Most of the early shoves were people on non-nut flush draws.
The noon event fields were; 505 on Friday, 341 on Sat, 126 on Mother’s Day, and less than 150 on Monday. Perhaps they will pick back up as the weekend approaches.
Like all WSOP events, you have to have a Harrah’s player’s card to buy-in.
WSOP events & SnG’s are played in the theater and cash games are in the regular poker room.
Tournament buy-ins take place at the exact opposite end of the casino from the theater – across from the regular poker-room. You can buy-in with tournament entry chips (TECs) or cash. Note that the nightly 9:00 PM $175+25 events are cash buy-in only.
SNG buy-ins take place at the game table and you can pay with tournament entry chips, cash, or even casio chips. (FYI - it is super easy to sell your extra TEC's to people just before a SnG buy-in starts. As people come to the table, ask them to buy your TEC's for cash or casio chips - at full value.)
The side-room of the theater was VERY cold most of the time and the rest of the theater was comfortable, but on the cool side.
Quickest non-sandwich type meal is at the Hilton, on the bottom floor in the middle. It looks like it is just a bar, but they also serve good groceries at reasonable prices. There is a breakfast buffet next to that, but Harrah’s breakfast buffet is half the price and offers more.
Hilton has a WSOP rate of $85. However, it costs almost as much to park your car in the lot as it does to park your butt in the room - $30 per night!! So, if you drive, park at Harrah's & get a parking pass at the casino when you buy-in.
Have fun & good look out there!! _________________ If it weren't for luck, I'd never win one.

Very nice score.
The W-2G is standard in LA when winning any kind of torunament with a payout over 1K.
State of LA has to get their tax money. _________________ I would like nothing better than to play USC for the title. I can tell you this: They're going to play real knock-down, drag-outs with UCLA and Washington, Cal-Berkeley, Stanford -- some real juggernauts! ~ Les Miles |

I played the Omaha PL Rebuy and got thru the break with only 1 rebuy and 1 addon. The table was really cautious the first level, then went kind of crazy the 2nd level and then back to nitty the 3rd level. I never had the premium hand that you would want to push pre-flop so just kind of waited. Then late in the 2nd level after the break, flopped open ended straight draw with top pair. Raised initial better to see where I was and get 2 callers behind me as well as first guy. Turn gives me top 2 with straight draw and I think I might be good since I did not get re-raised earlier. First guy moves allin, I have him covered so I move allin. Next guy waits and delays forever, then moves a big stack in. The 4th guy says he has double gut shot straight draw and flush draw but ends up folding. Of couse, 3rd guy has top set, 1st guy has same straight draw I have and river blanks for us but would have hit the 4th guy. So I went out about 70th, 94 started and it paid top 9.
MsPrimo played the noon tourney but went out shortly before the dinner break. She played some cash and I played some craps, won 2 out of 3 sessions but should have won lots more, just played too cautious.
Saturday night, had dinner at Bayona and it was wonderful.
Flew back Sunday night, flight was delayed nearly 2 hours but met up with HP and MadTuna, so it was not as bad as it could have been. |

It was good seeing Tommy and Annette at the airport. Even though the Tuna asked me, "How do you know those people" not recognizing Tommy without his stache LOL.

Cash games were juuuuuucy. The list was over 85 deep for 1/2 on Friday afternoon though they were using about 12 tables for tourney when I got there. I saw it hit 100 for 1/2 on Saturday and into the 80's for 2/5... no tourney tables that day either. _________________ yes very donk move but, do you expect ne thing less.........c'mon
